The End-User Training for the Uhai system at Peace Modern Primary School marked a significant milestone in strengthening school-based healthcare delivery. Designed to enhance digital health management, the training introduced staff to the core functionalities of the Uhai system, with a dedicated laptop provided to support ongoing use. Basic IT lessons ensured that both the school administrator and provisional nurse could confidently navigate the system. The administrator was trained to create and manage student bio-profiles, while the nurse learned how to input vital measurements and conduct digital medical examinations, laying the groundwork for accurate, real-time health tracking within the school setting. More than a technical orientation, the training underscored Uhai’s role as a transformative tool for early disease detection, effective case management, and seamless stakeholder collaboration. By digitizing student health data and enabling structured communication between school nurses, administrators, parents, District Health Officers, and policymakers, the Uhai system fosters a proactive and coordinated approach to child wellness. The training highlighted how digital systems like Uhai can bridge gaps in care, empower frontline staff, and support data-driven decision-making ultimately contributing to healthier school communities and more responsive public health strategies.
The On-School Medical Assessment Camp held in August 2025 at Peace Modern Primary School in Mpigi District was a collaborative effort aimed at promoting early detection and preventive care among school-aged children. With the support of specialized medical professionals, including ophthalmologists, dentists, nurses, and laboratory technicians, pupils underwent comprehensive screenings covering vision, dental health, blood grouping, urinalysis, and vital measurements. In addition, the team documented allergies and chronic illnesses, ensuring that each child’s health profile was accurately captured. This hands-on approach brought essential medical services directly to the school environment, bridging gaps in access and reinforcing the importance of routine health monitoring. Beyond the clinical assessments, the camp underscored the crucial role of school-based health initiatives in promoting student well-being. By creating a familiar and accessible setting for medical evaluation, the activity reduced barriers to care and encouraged open dialogue around health concerns. The presence of expert practitioners not only ensured the delivery of quality service but also built trust among pupils, parents, and educators. The outcomes of the camp made it abundantly clear: on-school medical assessments are not just beneficial, they are necessary for fostering healthier learning communities and supporting the holistic development of every child.
The recent mental health assessment activity at Lumuza High marked a pivotal step in promoting emotional well-being and psychological awareness among students and staff. Guided by the internationally recognized PHQ-9 screening tool, the initiative provided a structured and evidence-based approach to identifying signs of depression and emotional distress. Through confidential assessments, interactive sessions, and open discussions, students and educators were empowered to better understand mental health as a vital component of overall wellness. The use of PHQ-9 helped normalize conversations around mental health, reinforcing that seeking support is a sign of strength—not weakness. Beyond the assessments themselves, the activity served as a powerful awareness campaign—sparking dialogue that extended beyond the classroom. Peer-led talks, visual materials, and storytelling sessions helped demystify mental health challenges and encouraged empathy, listening, and community support. By creating safe spaces for reflection and equipping participants with practical knowledge, Lumuza High is fostering a culture where mental health is understood, respected, and prioritized. This initiative not only empowered individuals to take charge of their emotional well-being but also laid the foundation for sustained mental health advocacy within the school and its surrounding community.
We harness technology to advance innovative, community-driven management of healthcare service delivery.
