“Connecting Healthcare Stakeholders for Healthier School Environments.”
The Student Health Information Management System is a dynamic solution designed to strengthen healthcare service delivery within school environments. By serving as a centralized platform, it enables efficient collaboration among key stakeholders, including parents, school nurses, administrators, and policymakers, ensuring that student health is managed with precision, transparency, and care. The system streamlines communication and coordination across roles, enabling timely interventions, shared decision-making, and enhanced health outcomes. Whether tracking immunizations or coordinating referrals, the platform fosters a proactive, connected approach to school-based healthcare.
At the heart of the program lies a robust medical data management system tailored to the unique needs of students. It securely handles records related to chronic conditions, allergies, vaccinations, and medication schedules, ensuring continuity of care and rapid response when needed. The platform also supports the operational management of sickbays, referral pathways, and health assessments, making it a comprehensive tool for daily school health operations. To enhance frontline efficiency, school nurses are equipped with handheld vital sign measurement devices and tablets, enabling real-time data entry, monitoring, and follow-up. This integration of technology and care enables schools to create safer and healthier learning environments for every child.

Recognizing the need to strengthen healthcare service delivery within school environments, ILERA-I had to seek partnership with a software development company to co-design innovative digital solutions.

ILERA partnered with Dijito-Tech Labs Uganda to adapt and customize the Uhai Mobile Health System into a comprehensive digital platform tailored for student health management.

A stakeholder engagement was held at Mariam High School Kisaasi, where participants were introduced to the Uhai Application prototype. The interactive session catalyzed further development and refinement.

Three schools, with a combined student population of 1,200 from two partner districts, were selected to launch a two-year pilot. The pilot phase aims to expand enrollment to 15 schools, reaching an estimated 9,000 students.

The SHIMS program was scaled to five schools, reaching over 2,500 students across participating districts, marking a key milestone on the path toward achieving the pilot target.

The school medical assessment held at Peace Modern P/S in Kayabwe covering over 450 pupils was a crucial step in enhancing service delivery and facilitating data-driven student care.
We harness technology to advance innovative, community-driven management of healthcare service delivery.
