The recent mental health assessment activity at Lumuza High marked a pivotal step in promoting emotional well-being and psychological awareness among students and staff. Guided by the internationally recognized PHQ-9 screening tool, the initiative provided a structured and evidence-based approach to identifying signs of depression and emotional distress. Through confidential assessments, interactive sessions, and open discussions, students and educators were empowered to better understand mental health as a vital component of overall wellness. The use of PHQ-9 helped normalize conversations around mental health, reinforcing that seeking support is a sign of strength—not weakness. Beyond the assessments themselves, the activity served as a powerful awareness campaign—sparking dialogue that extended beyond the classroom. Peer-led talks, visual materials, and storytelling sessions helped demystify mental health challenges and encouraged empathy, listening, and community support.
